Existing Condition: A single story suburban residence with attached garage. A 13,000 sq. ft semi circular lot with extensive street frontage to the South side of the house.

Objectives: a) Provide studio space for a decorative artist  b) Increase and orient living space to enjoy south light from street side and garden views from the rear c) Propose more versatile uses of the existing breezeway area.

Strategy: a) Capitalize upon the generous south light from the street, morning light and garden views from the rear. b) Elongate the current configuration to include a studio space adjacent to the street frontage.

Concept: a) A series of “interstitial” living and working spaces enabling disparate activities to be distributed across the unusually shaped lot.

Solution: a) Integrate the existing garage into the living spaces b) Modify the breezeway to serve as a transition lobby between interior and exterior c) Separate potentially noisy spaces from the sleeping areas to the East of the house
